After months of fitfully deciding to canvass, I finally was able to do so on this cool, bright Sunday fall afternoon. The weather was finally cool enough to spend it outside without getting short of breath from the heat. So I went to my neighborhood Democratic Headquarters and canvassed with a veteran canvasser from the office.
Canvassing turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it would be. The two people I contacted were enthusiastic voters, the rest weren't home, and even the one person who said no wasn't really mean about it. Indeed, I began to worry less about people's responses than about encountering stray loose dogs (I saw a couple of unleashed ones on my canvass)
I have to commend the professionalism that Democrats now have regarding their GOTV efforts now. I was given a script, literature, and walk lists!
Instead of trying to figure out what to say, having nothing to give people (or leave at their doors), and not knowing who to talk to, I was equipped to be equal to the task.
